Dana Point Boaters Association

 

Vision:
The Dana Point Boaters Association is the champion of recreational boating and the jewel that is Dana Point Harbor.

Mission:
The Dana Point Boaters Association advocates the preservation, enhancement, and expansion of affordable recreational boating. We work to improve the family-friendly atmosphere and breadth of water-oriented activities we all enjoy in the harbor.  We serve as the watchdog by ethically protecting the rights of all boaters and representing them when collective action is most effective.  We actively gather information and communicate our views to educate boaters, external interests, and public officials.  We build and maintain constructive, working relationships to achieve common goals with other harbor stakeholders.  We will pass on our harbor to the next generation of recreational boaters in better condition than it is today.

The Association:
The Dana Point Boaters Association is a California Not-For-Profit IRC §501(c)(4) Corporation.   The Association intends to be a permanent organization/association within Dana Point Harbor now and in the years to come.

While the Association focuses on many issues presented to recreational boaters in Dana Point Harbor, one of the more significant efforts will be what the County of Orange refers to as the "Dana Point Harbor Revitalization Plan".  The Association’s membership are boaters & non-boaters who are interested in and committed to helping promote, develop, and implement the best Dana Point Harbor Revitalization Plan.  This is accomplished by working with County Board of Supervisors, OC Parks, City of Dana Point, Department of Boating and Waterways, South Coast Water District, California Coastal Commission, other Governmental Agencies and Harbor Stakeholders.  It is our mission to involve all boaters and make sure our needs, wants, and ideas are heard and acted on. Together we can have a positive impact going forward for the next 50 years.

The Association hosts meetings and different safety and educational venues for its members. To control costs, leverage each others skills, react quickly, solicit feedback, collect ideas and keep everyone informed we utilize a number of different electronic tools.  In addition to our website, which you have already discovered, we also send out emails, Subscribe To Our eNewsletter Emails

The Best Way to support the Boaters Association is by Donating or by Volunteering/Joining with your assistance.  By donating or volunteering to the Association it not only shows your support for the Association and your fellow boaters it also gives you access to information, updates, and discounts at local and national businesses.  Please consider donating, together we can make our collective voices heard and acted upon.
 
We are a grass roots organization and need your help to spread the word.  We are still reaching out to obtain contact information for all boaters who make use of our harbor.  This leaves us with the press, emails, public speaking opportunities and most importantly you by contacting other boaters. You know lots of other people that love and use our “Harbor with a Park.”  Please pass along the information about our/your Association.  A little effort on your part can make a huge impact for all in our boating community.  Once you’ve joined the Association you will find links that allow you to forward our emails. Please encourage your family, friends, and contacts to join DPBA.

Anne Eubanks, President
Anne is not only a long-time boat owner and avid sailor, she has grown into a respected leader in our boating community.  She is a Staff Commodore of DPYC and also the Southern CA Yachting Association (SCYA).  While Anne's experience as a Dana Point sailor adds to our breadth of boating community knowledge, her role as a previous DPYC flag officer provides our team with valuable insight into the more than 1000 Dana Point boaters who participate in Dana Point yacht clubs and sailing associations.  Her role as a previous officer in SCYA provides insight into marinas and yacht clubs from Morro Bay to Baja, CA.  She also serves as a Director of Recreational Boaters of CA (RBOC) a board that advocates at the state level for all California recreational boaters.

Victoria Winters, Secretary
Victoria is a California native who enjoys sailing, exploring different activities and living a joyful life. For her, Dana Point Harbor and the coastal community at large is the place most dear to her heart. Living in southern California is something she appreciates and believes it is her duty to add value to the inhabitants of the area simply because everyone deserves a helping hand. As a writer and entrepreneur in the personal development industry, Victoria willing gives some of her time and attention to the service of sharing her wisdom, joy and sincere efforts for the good of all people.

Steve Carpenter, Treasurer, IT Officer
An Orange County native, Steve has lived most of his life in Capistrano Beach since 1959. He attended school in the CUSD. Upon completion of high school, he enlisted in the USAF as a Medic in the 944th Medical Air-Evac Squadron. After his discharge, he continued furthering his education at Saddleback College and simultaneously applied for entry into the IBEW Apprenticeship Program, and was accepted in 1979. Having worked as a journeyman electrician for 10 years, he went on to open his Electrical Contracting Businesses. Steve, Linda, children and grandchildren, enjoy boating on their Monterey Express Cruiser, slipped in Dana Point Harbor.

Alan Johnson, a Director
Alan has loved Dana Point since he first learned to surf at Doheny Beach in 1965. Gone are the days of surfing all day for $1.00…(75 cents for gas and 25 cents for lunch), yet what happens to the harbor and boating still matters much. He has been boating since 1968.  That is when he built his first boat, a Winard Sabot. Chaffey College Sailing Club is where he learned to crew by coastal racing an Islander 44. While raising a family he went to the “dark side” for 15 yrs. having lots of fun with a 23’ Sea Ray.  The “kids” like to go fast!  Currently he maintains a trailerable sailboat in the Embarcadero, racing, day sailing, and cruising to Catalina whenever possible. Alan is married, with 4 kids, 4 grand kids, and enjoys being a Family Dentist in Mission Viejo since 1979.

Robert Langan, a Director
Bob was a scientist and engineer working as a researcher and consultant in both industry and academia. He retired in 2013, and his retirement mostly revolves around boating. He and his wife, Sue, have been sailing out of Dana Point Harbor since 2008. Initially, their primary interest was cruising along the southern California coastline and to Catalina, but in 2014 they started racing as well and continue to do so on a weekly basis. His wife has been skippering in sailboat races since she was in her teens and was the 2018 Yachtswoman of Excellence for the Yacht Racing Union of Southern California. She also is a U.S. Coast Guard-Licensed Captain. Bob represents Dana Point Harbor on the Performance Handicap Fleet Racing (PHRF) Socal Regional Board and is a member of both Dana West Yacht Club and Dana Point Yacht Club. Please join us in welcoming Bob as our newest Board Member!

ADVISORS:

Rodger Beard, Co-Founder, Director, and now Advisor
A former enterprise software development executive with technology consulting and program management background within the private and public sectors, Rodger is a “numbers guy” and lifelong sailor who grew up on the water during long summers spent at his parents’ cottage on a lake in Northern Michigan.  Rodger first visited beautiful Dana Point Harbor while on a business trip from Chicago in February, 1978.  Then he went racing with a friend and one month later Orange County was home.  While Rodger and wife Dede have since lived in several different coastal cities within both Northern and Southern California, they returned to Dana Point for good in 1998.

Dennis Winters, Advisor

Dennis Winters graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a B.A. in 1974, and Loyola Law School, Los Angeles with a J.D. in 1979, where he earned the AmJur Award in Evidence, He was admitted to the Bar in 1979. He has specialized in real estate, commercial law and bankruptcy matters since 1980, initially with the firm of Alberts & Minier, and thereafter as a principal of Minier & Winters. Commencing in April, 1992, he started his own firm, the Winters Law Firm.

Mr. Winters widely experienced in representation of businesses in commercial litigation and in particular, commercial real estate land owners. Over the last 20 years he has represented dozens of commercial real estate owners and developers in litigation, including over 100 landlord tenant lawsuits. He is also experienced in commercial syndication projects and Class Actions.

Mr. Winters has had extensive experience representing creditors, debtors, Trustees and Creditor's Committees in Bankruptcy Court. He has successfully handled all types of Bankruptcy proceedings, from Motions for Relief from Stay to Chapter 11 Plans and Disclosure Statements. He has also represented both Defendants and Plaintiffs in numerous Adversary proceedings, including Preference, Fraudulent Transfer actions and Non- Dischargeability actions, including many successfully won at trial.

Henry (Hank) Davis, Advisor

Hank completed three professional careers and now focuses on sailing, investing and pro bono executive work for local non-profit organizations. His career experiences span from 27 years of Naval service with operational command experience, high-level policy and acquisition creation to over 20 years in Executive positions with The Boeing Company. His unique contributions in aerospace and defense communities centered on creation of new technologies, programs and businesses to satisfy highly complex large-scale customer requirements and the initiation of profitable aerospace businesses.

Since retirement from full time professional assignments, he has applied his talents to facilitating the overhaul of organizations in need of disciplined executive level management. In addition, Hank manages his family’s portfolio of investments using skills he has developed in structuring corporate business ventures and independent analyses of the management of those ventures.

Hank has been involved in all levels of maritime endeavors both as a senior Naval Officer and as an avid sailor. He has significant off-shore and coastal cruising experience and now owns and sails his Pacific Seacraft 31 out of Dana Point.

Dr. Jim Lenthall, (In Remembrance, Charter Member)
