Help
Protect Sportfishing Access in Southern California
Urge
the California Fish and Game Commission to reverse its March 3 decision
and give Proposal 2 equal consideration with all other proposals
As
part of the South Coast region's Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA)
process, the California Fish and Game Commission (FGC) voted on March 3
to only allow for regulations to be developed for the alternative created
by the Blue Ribbon Task Force (BRTF). The Commission's action
removes fair consideration for the three proposals created by the citizen
stakeholders selected to participate in the process, including Proposal
2.
The
Partnership for Sustainable Oceans (PSO), which represents the
recreational fishing and boating communities, supports Proposal 2 as the
preferred alternative for the South Coast. Proposal 2 places MPAs in
locations with a high level of conservation while minimizing the economic
impact on local communities and recreational anglers and boaters.
Proposal
2 is a true compromise crafted by the recreational and commercial fishing
communities, boating interests, coastal communities, harbor masters and
other local stakeholders.
